Starwinder (CONCEPT)
A downloadable project
A faster-than-light racing game where you choose what course you follow.
Game Loops
- Race Your Own Way - This loop follows the basic racing formula by having the player try to reach a goal in the least amount of time, but blows the door wide open for creativity in how you get there. Players would be rewarded for finding better routes to your objective, which would feed into other game loops.
Comparable to open-world racing games such as Need for Speed, though this game would allow freedom in 3 directions and have no set 'roads'. - Customization - Many racing games allow you to customize your ride in one way or another, and Starwinder would be no different. The player would have a variety of options to customize their vehicle, such as multiple ships. These would be unlocked in a loop where the player makes progress by racing and performing well, changes their ship as they see fit, and uses that ship in a race.
Comparable to most racing games, but the use of ships is most comparable to F-Zero. - Exploration - Between races, the player would go through an exploration loop where they would explore the game world, find new races or locations, and enter the former as they saw fit. They would also be able to enter a 'garage' where they can customize their ship. For prototyping, this exploration area would be much smaller than an actual open world.
Comparable to most open world racing games such as Forza Horizon.
