Level Swap

Level Swap is a small companion app for Super Mario Maker 2 that is intended to facilitate a sort of challenge into level editing, where 2 people are involved. One person will relay a level concept, while the other will attempt to recreate the concept in the allotted time while using the randomly-selected objects. The timer is set for 5 minutes for this prototype, so prompts and levels should be simplified accordingly.

Currently the prototype only supports a fullscreen aspect ratio.

Reflection

Our concept demo is representative of the core loop we wanted, as it successfully facilitated the intended experience we had. It also answered the question we had posed in that it showed that the demo did change how someone interacted with Super Mario Maker, as it encouraged a new kind of creativity even if they were held back by a short timer.

Changes I would make would be adding sound to make it seem more complete, as well as to alert when the timer runs out and when its about to run out. I would also extend the timer so that someone who is unfamiliar with Mario Maker would have time to learn the ropes without running out of time, as well as to encourage more creativity. The next step of the idea would be to create our own level editor game instead of relying on another to do the heavy lifting for us - it was beyond the scope of even 3 weeks, so it would have to be something created over a long term period for it to work.
